The Moabi Park

Getting ready for a week vacation at the river, we’ve been going there for years. This place is very hot above 110 degrees, it’s really hard get in, and you have to reserve a spot a year in advance. You have your own RV parking lot with partial hookup (water & electricity), nice bathrooms, and your own private beautiful sandy beach. Last year after days of boating around, 4 out of 5 jet skis and 1 of 2 boats were dead (Larry’s boat and jet ski), and they all happen at the same day – how weird is that. Larry’s boat almost sank after a large wave from one those speed boats that came by a little bit to close to the beach. People from other sites also came by to help bail water out off his boat. Boating people out here are very helpful; I was towed back after my jet ski died. Over all it was nice vacation and I’ll see happen this week.

How to retrieve data from a crash computer

Last weekend Larry’s computer wasn’t booting up, his hard drive took a dive. He wanted to see if I could retrieve his photos and other misc. data. I have several of these external hard drive enclosures with USB connections for this type of situations. I have enclosures for notebooks 2.5” drives and regular computers 3.5”drives for backing up my data. I removed his hard drive from his notebook and installed it in the 2.5” enclosure. Then connected it to my computer via USB and fortunately I could still get his data out. Use this technique if you ever get this type of problem. You should regularly back up your data. I have several backup drives to for my 50gigibyte of music, 30gigibytes of photos, programs and misc. stuff. I know it’s going over board when backing up the backup drives.
For computer problems email me, I might have a solution .

Nancy’s Favorite Shrimps

Joy calls this recipe by this name because our dear friend, Nancy gets very excited when Joy brings this appetizer to her house. She calls them her shrimps!

1 lb of (21 to 25 count per lb) shrimp, raw, peeled tail on tiger fresh water or salt water
Joy's essence (recipe) or Emeril's original essence (use lighty - salty)
Cilantro about ½ or more chopped
Fresh lemon juice
Heavy cream
Tabasco sauce

Shake lots essence on the shrimp then fry in a hot pan with a little olive oil until slightly browned on both sides, they will not yet be completely cooked it will take 2 pan loads. Set them aside in the same pan add the juice of ½ of a lemon, Tabasco to taste (we add a lot at least ¼ cup) fry for a few mins then add the cream reduce and taste put the shrimp back to finish cooking. (Be careful not to over cook if the sauce isn't right yet remove the shrimp onto a serving dish and finish the sauce) Add ½ the chopped cilantro and cook a little longer. This is a sauce you must taste to get it right. If it is too sour add more cream not salty enough add more essence not spicy enough more Tabasco. Pour the sauce over the shrimp garnish with remaining chopped cilantro and lemon wedges. Enjoy Nancy's favorite, she always saves the sauce she loves it so much.

Essence

¼ cup paprika
¼ cup cayenne pepper
2 tbls garlic powder
2 tbls onion powder
¼ cup dried thyme
¼ cup roasted ground coriander seeds
¼ cup roasted ground cumin seeds
1 tbls ground black pepper
1 tbls kosher salt

Buy whole cumin and coriander seeds and roast on a dry heavy skillet (no oil of any kind) just until they turn brown or start to pop not too long then put in a spice grinder or coffee grinder or even the bullet if you have one. Mix all ingredients together and if you like you can omit the salt and use a store bought essence Zatarans or Emeril’s essence and mix that with yours so you have less salt and more spice.

Wireless remote for my Canon 30d

I made a wireless remote control for the Canon 30d or any Canon with a RS-80N3 connection. The wireless chips are from Linx Technologies (http://www.linxtechnologies.com), the data sheet can be download from their site. The KH series is the simples circuit to use , all you need is a 3volt battery, antenna, transistors, resistors and the RS-80N3 connector (EBay Adidt remote). It cost less than $50 to make without the RS-80N3 connector. With the Linx CMD-Key transmitter (it looks like a car key alarm) the effective range was about 100ft. I'm in the process of making a KH transmitter. These KH series chips should have a range of 300ft. I designed my receiver with a quad opto-isolator, that means the Linx circuits and the Canon circuit are not electrically connected. Connection is thru a led and phototransistor. More Linx circuit info's coming later.
